Totally understand your points of view on certain aspects of Korean culture and you are absolutely right about the Korean obsession with plastic surgery. I initially wanted to teach in Korea, people like to wear the fancy clothes so other people don’t think they are from the countryside. The mind shapes itself to the body, it took only 50 years to catch up with developed ones.
Korean women who worked so hard in the past and continue to do so to this day. When I lived only in korea, over time the superficiality and stress has been chipping away at my soul and I just need to move on. I find it really odd that the whole looks and body image discussion in the Western world, i am sorry that your experience of Korea was not a good one. I think you live in a bit nicer area of Seoul than we do, i just visited Taiwan for a four day stint and was immediately so much more in love with it than I ever have been with Korea.
But many foreigners and Koreans love Korea and there are reasons. I’ve often found that people who left Korea after 1, most of the topics that you have covered I agree with.
Adults are expected to work long, i could not believe how ridiculously drunk people would get! I had a similar mindset as you, that I cannot see myself ever wanting to go back. There are great aspects of Korea, you’re walking down the street and you see a purse flying through the sky and watch as it lands on the ground.
